The Orc and her Bride is a delightful reading experience and a fantastic edition to the f/f fantasy romance genre. I can’t wait to finish the rest of the books in this trilogy! Now is the perfect time to pick up these books, since book two, Heart of Silver Flame, is out now, with book three, Death’s Abyss, set for release in just a couple weeks on July 18 th.1 of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars SD Simper is definitely becoming a must-read author of mine.

Fantastic LGBTQ+ representation, incredible themes of love and redemption (with some heartbreaking moments), and compelling writing all throughout the book.

It’s alluring with strong storytelling and a nicely fleshed out world. The Fate of Stars met my expectations and then went above and beyond. This is a great beginning to an epic dark fantasy tale. The romance definitely began with a rocky start for our two mains, and at first I had no idea how it would work out – or if I even wanted it to! But as we got to know Tallora and Dauriel and their interactions became more frequent and filled with raw emotion, I couldn’t help but cross my fingers and root for them. And if you’ve read the Fallen Gods series as well (which I absolutely recommend) get excited to see a very familiar face make an appearance! Dauriel is a tough nut to crack, but the more I got to know her and her backstory, the more fond I became of her character. Tallora is sassy, determined, and a favorite right from the start. Some of the characters reside in a morally gray area, which always makes for an interesting read! Coupled with that, there truly is some phenomenal character development along the way. The Fate of Stars is filled with mystery, intrigue, and adventure. But when Dauriel’s kingdom comes to the cusp of war, could their uneasy alliance be the key to defeating a common foe? Or will their tenuous feelings for each other become their ruin?” Her only hope for rescue lies with a sworn enemy – Princess Dauriel, infamous for her stone heart and conflicted past. Worlds collide when Tallora is kidnapped from her ocean home and forced to be a pet to a tyrannical foreign empire. A feud as ancient as the gods themselves. Fans of her debut series will be equally pleased with this fantastic novel, and newcomers will fall in love with the epic worldbuilding and beautiful, complex characters. Magic, mermaids, and an enemies to lovers f/f romance – now this one really checks all the boxes! The Fate of Stars is the first in Simper’s Sea and Stars trilogy, a spinoff set in the world of her Fallen Gods series.
